1500 grit polish

For those who use Storm and Roto equipment, what do you do with the cover when you buy a new ball? Do you keep it at 1500 grit polished? Or do you change the surface to something easier to duplicate?

Also, how do you recreate 1500 grit polished?

Re: 1500 grit polish

I have my Cell Pearl at 1000 with Lane #1 Secret Sauce Polish. I love it!

Here's storm's chart on how to recreate 1500 polished.
http://www.stormbowling.com/docs/maintenance_poster.pdf

1500-grit Polished Factory Finish
1. 500-grit Abralon pad – Sand for 15 seconds on all four sides.
2. Grey Scotch-Brite™ pad – Sand for 40 seconds on all four sides.
3. Storm Step Two™ – Polish lightly for 15 seconds on two sides.
Storm suggests repeating steps 2 and 3 from above every 20 to 30 games or repeating all steps every 60 to 80 games.

Re: 1500 grit polish

I bought 1500 grit abralon on ebay. Abralon does have 1500 grit you just have to look for it.

Re: 1500 grit polish

I could be wrong but I believe 1500 abralon plus polish is far different than using a 1500 grit compound polish.

Re: 1500 grit polish

I've never used compound polish, like the Storm steps, but Storm does have instructions on their site for that. This chart shows grit of regular sandpaper, as compared to 3M pads and Abralon pads. I use up to 1000 grit sandpaper and Secret Sauce.:

When I resurface, I do 6 sides, as shown here:

Will give you exactly the factory finish! I usually do step 3 on four sides though.

Re: 1500 grit polish

I have found the following for Storms 1500 polished:

320 grit(burgundy pad) plus Storm step 2

1000 grit abralon plus Reacta Shine

Close enough for government work.

In today's game I know many that change the OOB coverstock to something they can always reproduce. Makes sense to me.
